Daneshill – update

As of the afternoon of 5 January, Daneshill was closed to through traffic to enable emergency repairs to be undertaken, after the number and depth of potholes became dangerous.  Many thanks to residents who contacted us and SCC direct to notify us of the problem.

Some repairs were undertaken but the coming of the heavy snow overnight has meant that further repairs will have to wait until the snow has melted.

After a number of years of campaigning, Daneshill is now third on the Surrey-wide priority list for road reconstruction for the year starting in April 2010 – therefore the long awaited full repair of the road is not far off.  The exact timing of the works is still slightly uncertain because the water company has notified SCC of their intention to undertake works sometime during the year, and clearly these works will have to take place before the road reconstruction, to avoid literally digging up the road twice.

Also on the Surrey priority list in the local area is Carlton Road, which has been deteriorating for some time.  All of the local councillors would like to thank residents for their patience during the time it has taken to get these important local roads dealt with.

Did you know that Surrey receives enough funding to resurface all of its roads on average once every 54 years, which is one of the longest waits in the country – some other Council areas receive enough funding to resurface their roads every 20 years or less.
