Restoration of historic Wray Common signpost under way

Beady eyed residents may have noticed late last week that the historic sign post on Wray Common, at the junction of Batts Hill, Wray Lane and Gatton Park Road, was removed.

The removal is only temporary, prompted by the considerable efforts of local residents who have sought to have the existing arms of the sign repaired, and the final arm, which had been missing for many years, recreated based on old photographs.

Thanks to the residents, with assistance from Borough Council grant funding, the new arm has been fabricated, and therefore the sign has been removed for the repairs to take place and the new arm attached.

Once this has taken place, with the approval of Surrey County Council the signpost will be moved slightly away from the road, in order to minimise the risk of being struck by large vehicles in future.
