The Surrey Mirror reports that a car club scheme is being planned for Redhill and Reigate, jointly supported by Surrey County Council and Reigate & Banstead Borough Council (link to article here). The scheme is in its early stages and would involve sharable cars being parked at locations in the two town centres, available for use by residents who register and have a special swipe card.
The Council is also in discussions with the developer of a large new scheme in Redhill to see whether their site can join the scheme. A car club has been successfully piloted in Guildford in recent years, and as a major transport hub the concept should have good prospects in Reigate/Redhill. Reigate & Banstead Borough Council and a number of businesses in the Borough are already members of surrey.liftshare.com, a website which enables individuals to arrange to share lifts between home and work.
