Jimmy White scores maximum 147 break at Harlequin event
Local snooker fans were provided with a treat last night (Saturday 21st May) when the “Snooker Legends” show came to the Harlequin.
The show boasted no fewer than three former World Snooker Champions – Cliff Thorburn (1980), Dennis Taylor (1985) and John Parrott (1991), plus 6 times runner up Jimmy White. The event was compered by John Virgo, and also featured a doubles match involving a member of a local snooker club and a member of the Harlequin audience, picked in a prize draw.
The highlight of the evening was provided by White, in his second frame against Thorburn, producing a maximum break of 147, provoking the audience into a raucous standing ovation. After the interval, in the final play-off between White and Parrott, the Whirlwind again produced the old magic, only narrowly missing out on another maximum break by missing a tricky pink – racking up a still impressive 134.
Cllr Julian Ellacott, who attended the event with friends, said:
“It was great to watch Jimmy White at work, and to see a good crowd enjoying a good evening out at the Harlequin.”
