The new development at Queensway House, replacing the old Lidl store and DMG offices, was formally topped out last Thursday, marking the completion of the structural build of the new development.

The topping out was undertaken by Cllr Mike Miller, Executive Member for Planning and Housing, and was attended by representatives of Hollybrook (the developers), Raven Housing Trust (who will have 50 flats in the finished development for shared ownership sale) and other Council representatives.

It has also been revealed that, once completed, the building will formally be named Nobel House, after the inventor of dynamite and instigator of the annual Nobel prizes, Swedish scientist Alfred Nobel.  The name recognises the occasion in 1867 when Nobel first tested the newly invented dynamite a a Redhill quarry. The Council has approved the name, suggested by the developer, as an appropriate name for the building, recognising the local link to Alfred Nobel which is not otherwise marked within the town.

The finished development will comprise 126 flats and 14,000 sq ft of retail space on the ground floor – further detail can be found in an earlier article.  The development is due for completion in May 2011, and will be marketed under the brand “Redhill One“.
