The historic Town Hall in Reigate & Banstead is opening its doors to the public as part of Heritage Open Days weekend, which, will be taking place across the borough, between Thursday 9th and Sunday 12th September, offering free access to medieval underground caves, historic listed buildings, museums and churches. There will also be tours, talks and activities, bringing local history and culture to life.
Built in 1901, The Town Hall, is a Grade II listed building and will be open to the general public from 10 am to 1pm . The main rooms are splendid examples of late Victorian grandeur, many containing fine paintings and watercolours, including a collection of paintings by the artist William Tatton Winter.
Heritage Open Days are held annually and gives people free access to historic buildings, many of which are not normally open to the public.
Cllr Adam De Save, Executive Member for Leisure & Wellbeing, said:
“The Heritage Open Days are a great opportunity for people of all ages to explore the wealth of historic, cultural and architectural landmarks such as Barons’ Cave in Reigate. It’s an opportunity not to be missed.”
These events are a collaboration between the Borough Council, the Reigate Society, English Heritage, the owners of various properties, local historians and amenity societies.
